Sewing Project – T-shirt Dress
Recently, I finished this dress:
I started out with a t-shirt and I followed this tutorial from Sweet Verbena. I purchased the t-shirt for $10 and I added navy blue jersey to the bottom and a polka dot ribbon for a bit more support.
Then I got to wear it! It’s the first piece of clothing that I have ever sewed myself. The Broncos lost the game they played this day, but I felt festive and fun!
What is your game-day attire??

Flashback Friday
On a much lighter note than last night’s post, I’m off to Chicago to visit the bestie. Can’t wait!
Don’t you just love the nose ring? 2005 baby!
Who wouldn’t want to hang with this?!?!

Growing Pains
If you know me, you know that I didn’t have a Brady Bunch childhood. My mom didn’t bake, sew, or kiss and hug us to sleep at night. My mom was way more Roseanne than Carol Brady or my favorite TV momma, Maggie Malone from Growing Pains. I’m not much for over-sharing on my blog, but I feel like getting this off my chest today.
I have so much resentment for my parents that it’s hard to talk to them sometimes. My mom called me today and I couldn’t even answer the phone. We don’t fight anymore, and most of our conversations are totally pleasant. She loves Jackson a lot and has been nothing but loving to her first grandson. Maybe that’s what pisses me off so much. Where was that when I was growing up? I guess I just haven’t moved past the past. I don’t need to get into the gory details, but lately I have been reading all these great things about what bloggy mommas have learned from their mommas about how to be great mommas and I feel a little left out.
My parents divorced when I was a toddler and I rarely saw my father growing up. He blames it on my mom, but I think that if a parent really wants to play a role in their child’s life, they won’t stop trying. Ever. He’s been in and out, but it’s hard to feel a real connection with him because he lives in another country and neither of us enjoys where the other resides much. It’s a bummer he hasn’t seen his grandson, but I get it.
When I was little I used to pretend that I was adopted and I really belonged with an awesome family who had their sh*t together.
The coolest thing about being a grown-up is that I have the chance to keep my sh*t together for my kids. And I will. It’s the greatest lesson I have ever learned from my parents.
**Sorry for being the Debbie Downer tonight, but I feel like this is my little space and I will bitch if I want to (only occasionally though, I swear)**
Happy Thursday!
Jackson can pull himself up on just about anything – the fireplace, the couch, ottomans, the dog, and now his crib. This is what I found when I went to get him from his nap this morning. Too cute!!

Tuesday Ten – Best Steals and Splurges
1. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – this product is amazing. I love the way it doesn’t chip for over a week – even though I am constantly washing my hands clanging them around on stuff.
2. Fisher Price Brilliant Basics Rock a Stack – best toy ever! Keep JB entertained and it was only $7.
3. Pearl Earrings from Nordstrom Rack - $2.99. I wear these babies everywhere. They are so awesome – the perfect size and color.
4. My "Pumpkin Spice Latte” – I take normal coffee (Starbucks Caramel Natural Fusions), creamer (I love Coffeemate sweet cream natural) and 2 or 3 pumpkin spice Hershey’s Kisses and stir it all up. It’s so very delicious and its much better for my wallet and my waistline. Sometimes I get crazy and add some Cool Whip.
5. McDonald’s McDouble – A Classic. No matter what – hungover, a little intoxicated, random stop, road trip, you name it. Mmmm….. and only $1
6. California Baby Calendula Cream – JB has eczema and this helps it so much. At $12 for a small jar that lasts about two weeks, it’s a little pricey, but well worth it.
7. Summer Infant Slim & Secure Infant Monitor – It took some convincing to get my husband on board for this purchase, but it is hands down the best thing we have bought since Jack arrived. It keeps me calm and gives me so much reassurance to be able to see our baby all night. LOVE IT!
8. Whole Foods Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad - $9.99 per lb. I am addicted to this dish! I have tried to re-create it to no avail – I am cool paying a premium price for heaven.
9. Seven for All Mankind Jeans – Maybe you aren’t into expensive jeans. It’s only because you haven’t tried them on, or found the perfect size/style. Please check out some Sevens – just hang out in Nordstrom for an afternoon. It’s bliss. And worth the $150+ it costs to buy a pair of these puppies. My butt looks nice, my legs look longer, and I just feel more confident in them.
10. Hotels – I will spend an extra $50, $100, $150 on a GOOD hotel room. Nothing creeps me out more than a shady hotel. I don’t need the Ritz everytime (though I wouldn’t complain), but I need clean rooms, a little space, and to be rest-assured that no one is going to be hiding in the closet or under the bed or knocking for drugs. My favorite hotel that I have ever stayed in is the Grand Wailea in Maui. Pure Heaven.
